BOOM ONE UPDATE
A sonic ocean of retro waves
For our latest update of new BOOM ONE exclusive sounds, we’ve tapped on old cameras, scanned the frequencies, and blown out our air supply recording all the great FX for this latest set. If you’re looking to create the next Cold War spy thriller or history documentary, or really need a fresh set of quality FX for your underwater scenes, then we’ve got you covered here.
This latest BOOM ONE expansion for our ever-growing BOOM ONE subscription is centered around those two themes. On the one hand we have high-quality, retro electronic sounds (note: the retro electronics themselves are decidedly low quality, but the sound recordings are top-notch) and on the other we’ve got a variety of hard-to-record underwater phenomena. We also have an interesting mix of animal sounds, like cats, pigs, and seagulls, as well as some miscellaneous sounds to round out the collection.
Dive into the depths with these 108 files for the various water bubble sounds. Our recordists armed themselves with a hydrophone and recorded bubbles blown through different materials, like straw, metal barrels, and more, both from below the surface and just above. We also got a great deal of water related sounds, like underwater movement, pours, sink sounds, and water hose sounds. These are all essentials for any water related projects you need to work on, and are as usual BOOM-quality, which means they’re super clean and ready to be dropped in.
A RETRO EFFECT
For the retro electronics side, we have 102 files of vintage electronic devices, found in an exploration of shady basements and bars of Tbilisi, Georgia. Our Georgian correspondent, Tamo Nasidze, worked on this quality mix of sounds. Tbilisi is a treasure trove of leftover Soviet-era relics, the perfect place to stock up on vintage electronics sounds. With many of the cafes now looking to create that neo-vintage vibe, and the bazaars and shops suddenly finding an interest in purchasing these kinds of items, they’ve really come out of the woodwork.
“The recording was done in the old part of Tbilisi, in an organic wine bar,” Tamo shares. “It’s run by my friend who is a musician and collects old equipment like Soviet and other old radios, TVs, tapes, and so on to use as decoration or sometimes as a source of samples for experimental electronic music.” Like so many other bars in old Tbilisi, one must wander down an old set of foreboding stairs off the side of a quiet street, the ambiance already creating the mood of shady deals and secret meets.
“I really enjoyed discovering the different variations of really old analog devices and was inspired by how the old machines were still working,” she continued. “It was really amazing to imagine how people lived without so many electronic devices and how radically the whole world changed under the influence of technical progress.”
