When BOOM Library creates a magic sound effect library, we don’t mess about. For MAGIC – ALCHEMY, lead sound designer Fabio Coressel quite literally turned our studio into a working alchemy lab — complete with goggles, fire extinguishers, and a strong sense of curiosity.
“It was like a science lab,” says Fabio. “All day with a water tap next to me and goggles on. Just in case anything needed extinguishing.”
The result is a magic sound collection packed with short, punchy magic effects that have real personality. Whether you’re designing spells for games, working on fantasy films, or layering enchanted audio in trailers or audiobooks, this library delivers usable, character-rich assets that sound alive.
Why We Made It
MAGIC – ALCHEMY rounds out the BOOM Magic catalogue, following MAGIC – ARCANE FORCES and MAGIC – WISP. But this isn’t about grand, sweeping soundscapes or cinematic blasts. This one’s rooted in the tactile chaos of magical chemistry — potion fizz, spell zaps, alchemical poofs, and sizzling micro-explosions.
“We wanted to complement our first two magic libraries with short, dynamic, natural-sounding magic sound effects,” Fabio explains. “They’re especially good for designing assets for games where timing really matters.”
Built for Games, Film, and More
This collection was created with games in mind, but it’s by no means limited to them. The fast, focused design also fits:
- Fantasy trailers and film sound design
- Audiobooks and immersive theatre
- Mobile games and casual apps
- Any project needing high-quality spell sound assets
“We heard from designers that longer spells were harder to integrate,” says Fabio. “So this library was created to solve that. Every sound is short, punchy, and mixable. You can use them as they are or shape them combine them with our other magic libraries.”
Real Chemistry. Real Chaos.
To record the Construction Kit, Fabio didn’t just record fire and water. He set up chemical reactions using alcohol, gas, and tubing to capture strange, rich, resonant sounds. Burning alcohol in plastic tubes. Methane in metal pipes. Even vegetables on hot irons.
“It had to go beyond just lighting a match. We wanted magic sound effects that had personality. So I experimented until we had reactions that really roared or shimmered.”
The Designed bundle took these raw sounds and processed them into spell-ready moments: whooshes, impacts, bursts, enchantments, and potion glugs. All sounds are categorised as Holy, Cursed, or Neutral, so they slot easily into narrative design.
“The Designed sounds are very processed — full of sparkle and shimmer — but kept dry enough to work across different projects,” Fabio adds. “They’re magical, but tight. No unnecessary reverb.”
Designed with Personality
Everything in this library has a clear design intent. The Construction Kit gives you 3,700+ clean, usable sounds. The Designed library delivers over 600+ ready-to-drop spell sounds. And all of it fits within a lightweight footprint: just over 10 GB in total.
“It’s not just noise. Every puff, fizz, or glug has personality. That’s what we were aiming for.”
Even outside of fantasy genres, these magic effects are surprisingly versatile. They can work in everything from game UI design to lighthearted mobile games. Think of it as sonic seasoning for magical worlds — short, shimmering bursts that bring charm without clutter.
Who It’s For
- Game audio designers building spells, power-ups, and abilities
- Indie developers looking for plug-and-play magic sounds
- Film and trailer editors working on fantasy content
- Audio drama producers creating rich, performative scenes
- Theatre and live event teams using immersive soundscapes
“It’s fun,” Fabio says. “That’s the point. If using this library doesn’t make you smile a little, we’ve missed something.”
Add Some Magic To Your Sound Design
MAGIC – ALCHEMY isn’t just another spell pack. It’s a carefully constructed library of magic sound effects that began with real-world experiments and ended with usable, inspiring audio tools. From potion pops to shimmering bursts, it offers short, mix-ready spell sounds that feel alive.
It’s for anyone who wants their sound design to sparkle, crackle, and charm — without sounding like everyone else.
Because the best magic sound libraries start with real reactions, and a touch of mischief.
