What is iLok?

iLok is an industry-standard software license manager used for BOOM Interactive software (not required for standard Sound FX packs). It requires a free account at ilok.com and the free iLok License Manager app.

You can activate software in two ways:

Machine License (Free): Activates directly on your computer with no extra hardware needed. All you need is a valid FREE account on www.ilok.com and the FREE iLok license manager software.

iLok USB Dongle (2nd Gen or newer):Stores licenses on a portable USB key, which works across multiple software brands. Devices can be purchased at ilok.com or via music or audio software retailers.

An iLok device can be purchased directly at ilok.com or – if you want to purchase from outside the USA – here. Additionally, you can get an iLok device from the most music or audio software retailers.

What is iLok?

Important: Both Editions, the TURBINE FREE TRIAL and the TURBINE FULL VERSION require an eligible iLok USB device to load.

iLok is an industry standard that we use to manage our BOOM Interactive software licenses (Please note: iLok is NOT required to work with our regular BOOM Library Sound FX packs). For our clients, the iLok system consists of two components:

A free license management software
A portable USB device that must be purchased separately. Please note that a lot of software plug in creators use the iLok system, so if you already own a 2nd generation (or newer) iLok USB device, you don’t need to purchase another one and if you purchase an iLok USB device now you can use it with software from other manufacturers (one iLok to rule them all).

An iLok device can be purchased directly at ilok.com or – if you want to purchase from outside the USA – here. Additionally, you can get an iLok device from the most music or audio software retailers.

A 2nd generation (or newer) iLok USB device must be plugged into your workstation to run our TURBINE software. Without a 2nd generation (or newer) iLok device, the TURBINE software will not load. This applies to both editions, the free trial and the full version. When plugged into your workstation, our software will recognize your license and you can work with it.

What's in the Stereo and the Stereo + Surround Edition?

The STEREO edition contains the recordings in binaural stereo, meaning they reflect a stereo image on speakers and a surround image on headphones.

The STEREO & SURROUND edition contains all files from the STEREO edition plus the same recordings in 5.0 interleaved surround files. The track layout is: L • R • C • Ls • Rs

What License Type Do I need?

SINGLE USER LICENSE

A SINGLE USER LICENSE is sufficient when only one person at a time works with the sounds, like in the following cases:

You are a freelancer and have up to two workstations (e.g. home and office).
You are a company and only have one audio workstation. Even if you have multiple sound designers working with that single workstation, as long as they can’t work with the sounds simultaneously and you don’t copy the sounds to a second workstation, the SINGLE USER license is your choice.
You are a company and have multiple audio workstations but only one sound designer. As there’s only one person working with the sounds, the SINGLE USER license is sufficient. (If you hire more sound designers later, you’ll need to upgrade your license type accordingly)
For the QUIET PLANET® nature sounds, BUYOUT versions can only be granted to named individuals, including single person businesses. Any company or business that has more than one member (including founders, members, staff and employees), needs to purchase the SUBSCRIPTION version.

MULTI USER LICENSE

MULTI USER LICENCES work like a software volume license. They are necessary when more than one person can work with the sounds simultaneously, like in the following cases:

You have multiple workstations where multiple sound designers can work with the sounds. Each workstation counts as a user.
You have a shared audio server where multiple users have access to. You need a license for each user.

DEVELOPER LICENSE

If you would like to develop your own product with BOOM Library sound effects (e.g.: KONTAKT instruments, VST plugins, audio apps, trailer templates, sound FX libraries, etc.), you need a developer license, which basically means that we get a small share in the product using our sounds. We differentiate between sound FX and sound file. Each sound file can contain multiple variations of a sound (up to 6 variations based on the product).
That way, we assure to provide you with different styles of a single sound in one file instead of multiple files, keeping your database nice and clear and speeding up your workflow as you have multiple variations available by dragging only one file to your audio host software.

Less repetitive sound design

Having multiple variations of a single sound effect also guarantees you a less repetitive overall soundscape when using the effect multiple times in a row or over and over again in several projects.

Designed, Construction Kit, Bundle - What's The Difference?

CONSTRUCTION KIT – THE SOURCE SOUNDS

A CONSTRUCTION KIT generally contains thousands of sounds as raw as possible and only as processed as needed for a specific topic, perfectly organized to make it easy for you to use them. Carefully selected, those sounds give you all the freedom and possibilities you need to design your own sounds within the given topic from scratch. For some topics it is difficult to provide recordings only, so you will find some pre-processed or synthesizer based sounds in those collections as well, but still only basic material, since we don’t want to offer it compressed to the maximum or similarly mutated. After all, the CONSTRUCTION KIT serves as such for ourselves, namely in the following process of creating the respective DESIGNED collection.

DESIGNED – THE PRE-DESIGNED & READY-TO-USE SOUNDS

The DESIGNED collections feature fully designed sounds which originate from the CONSTRUCTION KIT stock. The sounds are of a specific topic and ready to use: mixed, processed, compressed, mastered etc. They can be easily put into all kind of projects, for example trailers, commercials, movies, TV shows and so forth or used as in-game sounds. This collection provides a quick and easy workflow and you can still use those sounds as a basic and layer, stretch or otherwise adjust them to suit your specific needs.

BUNDLE – THE MONEY-SAVER
