Deserts - Weather & Wildlife (incl. Quietudes)
Crisp, free-field soundscapes
An amazing new nature SFX library is waiting for you: DESERTS - WEATHER & WILDLIFE from our remarkable series of high quality nature recordings by Emmy-winner and nature recording genius Gordon Hempton.
What’s Inside
A clean stage to shape your experience
DESERTS are simple, spacious and lack echoes. Quiet prevails. Even so, you’ll want to challenge your audience, jolt them from their comfortable seats and immerse them in this inhospitable habitat. Do not be afraid to use harsh insects, driving winds, or even startle your listeners with a sudden, loud, unexplained alarm call of a strange bird nearby. Then settle them with expansive concerts, such as a reassuring gecko chorus composed of thousands of point-source clicks in step with the setting sun. All this is included in DESERTS - WEATHER & WILDLIFE which gives sound designers the easiest access to super-authentic soundscapes.
Covering every angle
We offer you super-clean sounds from different deserts (temperate vs tropical), different times of day (morning, day, dawn) and different weather conditions. In addition you get very rare and clean sounds of desert wildlife.

What we recorded
We made use of some really rare and vintage but also modern and unique analog devices such as the Ampex AG-440 analog tape recorder from 1969, the NED Synclavier, Yamaha CS-60, Rhodes Chroma, E-Mu Emulator II, – just to mention a few of them.
Here are some of the devices we recorded to design the unique sound we had in mind.
What's so special about this library?
Compose a well-tuned desert concert, performed under free-field conditions which makes desert soundscapes unique, even awe-inspiring, especially for listeners imagining the landscape from the singular sounds. Desert soundscapes are the Haiku poems of bioacoustic recitals. Each message or animal sound is structured to convey the most information while also expending the least energy. They sound spacious with a preponderance of prevailing quiet - except during the most active times of year and day.
About Gordon Hempton - the Sound Tracker®
BOOM Library is very proud to distribute the probably best nature recordings on the planet, the absolutely precious recordings of Gordon Hempton.
Environmental activist & Emmy-Winner
All of the nature sounds in the QUIET PLANET Nature SFX series were recorded by Gordon Hempton, The Sound Tracker®, Emmy-winner, author of One Square Inch of Silence, and environmental activist. Faced with habitat loss, species extinction and most of all unbridled noise pollution, Hempton has now turned his attention towards saving the world’s few remaining natural amphitheaters.
The highest appreciation for mother earth's voice
Gordon Hempton cares very deeply about quiet. As The Sound Tracker® he has circled the globe three times over the last 35 years in pursuit of Earth’s rarest nature sounds — sounds which can only be fully appreciated in the absence of manmade noise. These recordings are available through BOOM Library's QUIET PLANET series.
