BOOM ONE UPDATE

Shuffle the action

Step into a world of adventure with our latest massive update, adding over 1,000 electrifying files and 5500 sounds to the BOOM ONE collection. These high-quality sounds will leave your projects shooting for the stars. But this month’s blog isn’t just about our new update, it’s also to announce that this officially rounds out our first year of service. Don’t worry, fresh, new sounds will continue to come at you. We just wanted to take this time though to have a look back and reflect with the project lead, Lukas Weis.

But first, a bit about this month’s update.

NEW SOUNDS

FOOTSTEPS

Footsteps are a hot commodity in the sound design world, as the sound captures the essence of movement in any production. We used a variety of shoes and actions on different surfaces, like concrete, wood, and metal to create an authentic sense of space and footwear. From the gritty scrape of boots on gravel to the solid thud of sneakers on pavement, we’ve got a full and solid coverage for all the steps your story needs.

The update includes 264 footstep files recorded and performed in our Foley studio and include:

Shoes:

  • Leather boot heavy
  • Leather boot light
  • Leather boot medium
  • Sneaker

Actions:

  • Pivoting
  • Running
  • Scuffing
  • Sliding
  • Sprinting
  • Walking

Surfaces:

  • Concrete gritty

SCI-FI WEAPONS

But watch where you walk, you never know what dangers lurk around the corner of your spaceship. Designing futuristic weapons is always a blast for our recordists, and this time was no different. They tweaked out 428 files for weapons sounds. They’re heavily processed synthetic sounds sorted by type: energy, mechanism, charge and discharge, sweetener, textures, and blasts.

AND MORE!

Every month, our project lead, Lukas, pours over the BOOM ONE sound effects files to see what more can be used here or there. He also reads through the feedback to see what anyone has requested and doles out the assignments to our best recordists available. For this month, that’s led to us getting quite a variety: sport sounds recorded inside a wooden sports hall with stereo and ambisonics mics, crow sounds, abstract sounds of electric devices recorded with an electromagnetic mic, a mini air hockey table (drop puck, slide puck, goal, etc), vintage glasses clinking, and more.

All these sounds round out for 1053 files for the update. With this drop of extensive footstep sounds, sci-fi weapons, and more, on top of the massive library that is BOOM ONE, you’ve got a true audio arsenal to tell your most ambitious stories.

And of course, that’s not all. More exciting sound effects are coming for our second year!

THE BOOM ONE PROJECT

Our recordist and sound designer Lukas Weis has led the project from day one. He’s been a diligent lead, carefully combing over data files for hours on end, making sure only the highest quality sounds make it through to these updates. We wanted to give him a moment to reflect on BOOM ONE’s release and success and share his thoughts with you.

How do you feel about BOOM ONE year one?

Lukas: Based on what I’ve observed, the anticipation leading up to the launch of Boom ONE was substantial. It was a whole new field for BOOM Library, and the warm reception from the community was genuinely gratifying. Seeing Boom ONE become a go-to choice for many in their daily creative work has been rewarding. In just one year, it has become a significant player in the field of general sound libraries, and that’s something we’re proud of.

How do you feel about the feedback you’ve gotten?

The feedback we’ve received has been very positive, and it’s amazing to see that. Whether it’s through comments on social media or direct feedback, users have expressed their appreciation for the quality of BOOM ONE. This positive response motivates us to continue refining and expanding the library, and it strengthens our commitment to delivering more outstanding content.

How do you come up with the ideas for each month?

In fact, BOOM ONE is already very extensive and contains everything a sound designer needs for their daily projects. Though with a general library, there is still room and potential for more sounds.

From update to update it’s always a challenge to find gaps within the library that need to be filled. One approach is to always analyze the content meticulously for all possible topics and identify possible potential for new sounds. The UCS categories make life a little easier here.

But sometimes you also want to add to existing categories. For example, when we get the opportunity for a very special recording. Then of course we take the opportunity to get new cool sounds. Sometimes a lot of different sounds are indispensable for certain topics. You can never have enough sounds – especially if they are well structured and have BOOM ONE quality standards.

Of course, we are always very grateful for feedback from customers and are happy to implement these ideas. It would be great to incorporate the ideas of BOOM ONE owners into the conception of future updates.

How has been your own experience with it? What have been your greatest challenges and how have you overcome them?

Stepping into the project manager role was quite an adventure. It was an exciting time, full of new challenges and processes to wrap my head around. Thankfully, we’ve got an awesome team spirit, and everyone’s experiences blend together to make everything happen. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between being creative and handling the administrative stuff, and I’ve got to say, it’s a pretty exciting balancing act. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also a lot of fun.

What do you see for the future of BOOM ONE?

While I, unfortunately, can’t make future predictions, reflecting on Boom ONE’s first year makes me feel very optimistic and excited regarding its growth and development. Of course, we aim to make it even more comprehensive and to create exceptional, high-quality sounds that truly stand out. But we’re not just here to cover your everyday sound needs; we want to create extraordinary and special sounds of the highest quality. At this point, I would especially like to mention our diverse and incredibly creative team that consistently generates new ideas and brings them to life. It’s great to have the opportunity to work with so many creative people on a daily basis and see how ideas are taking shape and are finally released. With this dynamic environment, I believe Boom ONE will continue to do incredibly well in its second year.

More Sounds Than Files - How's That?

Improved workflow

We differentiate between sound FX and sound file. Each sound file can contain multiple variations of a sound (up to 6 variations based on the product).
That way, we assure to provide you with different styles of a single sound in one file instead of multiple files, keeping your database nice and clear and speeding up your workflow as you have multiple variations available by dragging only one file to your audio host software.

One File, Multiple Variations

Less repetitive sound design

Having multiple variations of a single sound effect also guarantees you a less repetitive overall soundscape when using the effect multiple times in a row or over and over again in several projects.
