From time to time, we come up with some tips and recommendations to help you finding your way through the jungle of audio equipment. After Michael worked intensively with his new Class 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor LG43UD79 for a couple of weeks, here comes his evaluation.
To what extent did the LED Monitor change / improve LG43UD79 your way of working?
I used to have two 24-inch screens on top of each other and wanted more screen space. Instead of connecting another one, I decided to test a large monitor. Now I have 43 inches, which corresponds to the area of 4 21.5 inches monitors. You get used to the size relatively quickly. A curved screen would be ideal, but these are currently only available for TVs in this size.
Pro?
Huge screen area, a lot of space – I can place the monitor behind the loudspeakers, resulting in less reflections.
Con?
You have to scale, because the representation of the native resolution (4k) is very small. Some programs that do not yet support HDPI do not look quite sharp. The “picture-in-picture” feature (you can use up to 4 inputs at the same time) does not support Full HD resolution.
What is the Killer-Feature? What do you like in particular?
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
How is the price / performance ratio?
It costs about 750€, if you divide that by four, (the screen area corresponds to about four 21 inch monitors) you get a price of 190€ per monitor, which is not cheap, but I find it much more comfortable to work on a large monitor, so I find the price reasonable.
The product is best suited for whom / which area of application?
When you need to run many programs at the same time or when working on projects with a lot of tracks; I also think it’s great for editing because you can see so much.
Your conclusion to the sound designer / BOOM blog readers out there
If you think you need more space, buy a bigger monitor. 🙂
How many points do you give the product (0-10)?
