AUDIO DIRECTOR
“RAVEN SOFTWARE, developer of numerous award-winning games, including contributions to the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise [Call of Duty: Online, Black Ops, Advanced Warfare, Ghosts, Modern Warfare] is looking for a passionate Audio Director to join our team as we continue to develop the best games in the industry. The Audio Director must be able to create an audio vision, communicate the vision to the team, and motivate the team to success. The Audio Director will report directly to Raven’s Studio Head.”
Responsibilities:
- Audio Direction:
- Oversee the design and implementation of all audio, on all projects.
- Responsible for creating an innovative, compelling, and unique audio vision for the game.
- Communicates the audio vision to the team, Company and when appropriate beyond Raven. This may include directly designing SFX and composing music.
- Provides a detailed knowledge of the first person shooter genre and helps to establish necessary authenticity.
- Focused on laying down a thoughtful, clear direction for the team prior to starting work on new areas. Promotes proactive direction rather than reactive.
- Coaches and mentors audio team members to ensure they reach the expected audio vision for game.
- Management:
- Responsible for leading Raven’s audio department which includes: Sound Effects, Music, and any outsourced audio work, for both Single Player and Multiplayer.
- Maintains a consistently high-level approach to ensure that all departments are given adequate time and focus.
- Participates in decision making that affects the various audio disciplines within the company, including staffing and equipment needs, departmental organization, and career development of audio designers and engineers.
- Leadership:
- Must inspire and motivate the team as they execute the audio vision to the highest possible level of quality. The team needs to believe the vision is “kick-ass” so that individuals feel a personal responsibility to deliver an excellent game.
- Involves the team by delegating when appropriate, providing consistent feedback, fostering their ownership, and inspiring them to do their best work.
- Sets a clear example for the team by maintaining high principles of personal organization, time and schedule management, team communication, and timely delivery of assignments.
- Communication:
- Ability to communicate ideas and thoughts so that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the direction.
- Understands the dynamics among disciplines as they relate to developing a game.
- Knows when and how to make sure items of importance are communicated across disciplines.
- Understands that explaining why we make changes and how those changes make a better game to team members helps mentor people and strengthens the team.
- Experience:
- Experience running a team and/or has audio directed multiple AAA shipped titles.
- 5+ years of experience in 3D simulation or game or software development.
- 3+ years working as a leader in the field of audio.
- Expertise and understanding of the entire audio process, including sound effects, voice over, music, and audio systems technology.
- Knowledge of game engine technology and audio middleware solutions.
- A passion and deep understanding of the impact and role that audio plays in the overall player experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with all development disciplines.
- Experience managing, mitigating and resolving risks.
- Portfolio of games completed and/or personal work that demonstrates an inspiring level of quality.
- Required Skills:
- An impeccable ear for quality coupled with strong problem solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), time and project management skills.
- Highly organized and self-directed, and capable of instilling that characteristic in others.
- Ability to multi-task in order to handle a very large number of discrete tasks at once, without losing focus on any individual item and without missing a stride.
- Understanding of technical constraints and budgets in games and able to work within them.
- Extensive knowledge of games in multiple genres and platforms.

Sr. Audio Designer

Responsibilities:
- Core Duties:
- Collaborates with audio and other teams to create and implement sound assets that match aesthetic and technical specifications.
- Integrate sounds with level editor, animation editor (Maya/3DS Max) and scripting.
- Interactive and linear sound effects design, music editing, dialogue editing and processing, mixing.
- Troubleshoots audio issues, optimizes to meet memory budget and performance requirements across multiple platforms.
- Collaborates with audio programmers to improve existing tech and develop new features.
- Collaborates with relevant parties to design and build dynamic playback systems that link to existing in-game systems.
- Contributes to audio technology documentation/wiki.
- Works with Audio Director and teammates to manage the final mix of the game.
- Requirements:
- Portfolio demonstrating strong sound design for realistic settings (see below).
- Excellent understanding of implementation techniques, proven through work on previous titles with proprietary tools or middleware (Wwise, FMOD, Unreal).
- Ability to edit music, voice and sounds for integration into dynamic playback systems.
- Experienced with a level creation/editing tool (Hammer, Radiant, UnrealEd).
- Comfortable scripting in a C-like programming language.
- Mastery of chosen audio tools (Pro Tools, Nuendo, Sound Forge, etc).
- Minimum two shipped titles and 4 years minimum in a game audio role.
- Passionate about the FPS genre.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Pluses:
- C/C++ programming experience.
- Maya/3DS Max experience.
- Multiplayer FPS experience.
- Passion for FPS gaming.
- What We Want to See in Your Reel:
- 3-5 minute video file with footage from games on which you’ve worked.
- A cue sheet or superimposed text explaining your contributions to the footage.
- A diverse selection of footage including various types of work.
- No music, this is not a music role.
